A lively cemetery in D.C. | Where Locals Go
Dog walkers in the early 1990s helped turn around the Historic Congressional Cemetery in D.C. after it had fallen into disrepair. They raised funds for landscaping and maintenance to make it into a safe space for owners to walk their dogs off leash. The cemetery is still the final resting place for many significant Washingtonians, like John Philip Sousa and J. Edgar Hoover, but it is also a space for the community to gather for goat yoga, a 5K race around the grounds or a movie night.
